After launching a barrage of missiles at Israel, Iran confirmed that its response to Israel has ended unless further escalation is provoked. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi explained in a post on “X” that Iran was exercising “self-defense” against Israel and that its actions would cease unless “the Israeli regime decides to invite further retaliation.”
Iran also warned on Wednesday morning against any direct military intervention on its soil in support of Israel. The Iranian Armed Forces’ General Staff stated in a release by Fars News Agency, “Should there be direct intervention by states supporting the entity in aggression and attacks on Iran, their centers and interests in the region will also face a strong counterattack by Iran.” The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations Security Council to take “concrete actions” to prevent threats to regional peace and security.
In its statement regarding the missile attack on Israel, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said, “Our defensive operation is in line with international law and the right to self-defense… We targeted only military and security installations.” The Revolutionary Guards stated that the attack was in response to the killing of several leaders of groups allied with Tehran and to aggression in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
In a previous post on “X,” Iranian President Masoud Bazjikyan stated that Tehran’s actions were “in defense of Iran’s interests and its citizens,” adding that his country does not seek war but “will stand firm against any threat.” It is noted that Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, and Abbas Nilforoushan, the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, were killed in Beirut last week
