Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has confirmed that Iran possesses hypersonic missiles and is capable of launching satellites into space.
Addressing a press conference in Tehran, Pezeshkian also denied reports that hypersonic missiles have been transferred to Yemen.
Pezeshkian stated that while Iran’s allies, particularly in Yemen, possess the technology to develop advanced missiles, Tehran has not sent hypersonic missiles to the Houthi rebel group, Ansar Allah. He emphasized that Iran shares a strategic vision with the Houthis to support Palestinians in their conflict with Israel.
The Iranian president’s comments came in response to claims made by Ansar Allah’s military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree. On Sunday, Saree announced a “qualitative military operation” involving a new hypersonic ballistic missile targeting an Israeli military site in Jaffa. Saree asserted that the missile traveled about 2,040 kilometers in 11.5 minutes, evading Israeli defense systems and causing significant panic among Israelis.
Saree highlighted that this missile strike marked a milestone in the Houthis’ missile technology development, claiming it overcame both American and Israeli interception systems.
He warned that the US and British forces, along with their defense systems, would not deter their support for the Palestinian cause.
The missile attack reportedly led to widespread alarm in Israel, with sirens sounding in various towns and cities, including those east and south of Tel Aviv.
The Israeli Defense Forces later confirmed that the missile was launched from Yemen and that the explosions heard were from Israeli defensive systems intercepting the missile.
