Google plans to launch more Chrome updates for both mobile and desktop versions, with the updates geared towards improving efficiency and connectivity.
The mobile updates are mainly designed to refine your search experience, while the desktop version of Chrome is modifying the process of downloading and accessing files from the internet.
A newly designed webpage on Chrome mobile will display a “Trending searches” category, and suggestions have been increased from six to ten as you begin typing.
In a similar manner, if you’re browsing a site related to, say, the best pizzerias in New York and click on the URL at the top, a “Related to this page” category will appear beneath it, providing related search queries.
Furthermore, you can click on a specific word in the article, as a New York neighborhood mentioned, and use the Touch to Search feature to discover other related topics you’re interested in, like hotels in that neighborhood. Exclusive to Android, Touch to Search isn’t a new concept in browsers and is often used for locating specific words.
As for the desktop version of Chrome, the intrusive download bar that appears at the bottom of your screen and must be manually closed is no more. Instead, going forward, downloads will be displayed on the top right of your browser, adjacent to your account avatar. As you start a download, a circle surrounding the icon will turn blue upon completion.
You’ll have the option to click this icon to see anything saved within the past day, open the folder that houses a specific file, and manage your downloads by retrying, pausing, resuming, or canceling them. Although this feature will be the new default for everyone, it might already be active for some users.
Despite these changes, Google will continue to alert you if a download appears risky and will still provide the drag-and-drop functionality for downloads as required.
