On Sunday, Iran refuted all claims on launching a symbolic flight between Tehran and Cairo in the near future; emphasizing that such reports have not been made through any official channels.
The head of the bureau caring for Iranian interests in Cairo stated that Tehran does not validate statements that speculated a visit from the Egyptian Director General of Tourism to Tehran, as reported by Fars News Agency in Iran on Sunday.
This was said in response to comments made by the chairman of the Iranian Air Travel and Tourism Offices, Hormatollah Rafiei.
Rafiei had hinted at Iran’s plans to initiate trial direct flights from Tehran to Cairo and also referred to a potential visit from the Director General of Egypt’s Tourism Ministry to Tehran in the following week, leading a team of Egyptian tourism sector professionals.
A few days earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, expressed that his nation is open to enhancing ties with all countries in the region, as well as all Islamic nations, including Egypt.
Additionally, Ali Akbar Velayati, Advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran on international affairs, previously underscored the paramount importance of reestablishing relations with Egypt, asserting that the restoration of relations between the two countries, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia, would create new equilibriums in the region.
Iran broke off diplomatic relations with Egypt in 1980, a year after the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was toppled. These relations were later reinstated, although at a lower diplomatic level, focused on charge d’affaires and offices of interests.
