The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has voiced its “deep concern” regarding the forced displacement of residents in Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, as reported by the Qatari news agency, QNA.
The IOM, which operates under the United Nations (UN), shared on the social media platform “X” that the situation in Rafah has escalated to worrying levels, compelling the displacement of residents yet again due to increasing hostilities.
The organization stated, “The people of Gaza no longer have any safe havens left to which they can escape,” highlighting that the humanitarian situation has reached “catastrophic levels.”
The IOM has issued a warning that the citizens of Gaza cannot endure a “new escalation leading to further suffering and loss of lives.”
The ongoing Israeli offensive on Gaza since October 7 has resulted in significant casualties, with 34,735 fatalities, the majority of whom are children and women, and 78,108 injuries. Thousands more remain under the rubble.
The IOM stresses the critical importance of unrestricted access to humanitarian aid for those in need, urging for assistance to be delivered without constraints.
As the conflict continues to unfold, international focus intensifies on the dire circumstances faced by the residents of Gaza and the urgent need for comprehensive humanitarian responses.
