Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Houthis, announced on Tuesday the downing of an American MQ9 drone “while carrying out a hostile mission in the airspace of Al-Bayda Governorate,” in central Yemen.
Saree stated in a statement that the American drone was downed with a locally made surface-to-air missile, just a few days after another drone of the same type was shot down in the airspace of Marib Governorate, northeast of the country, bringing the total number of downed drones of this type during the “Promised Victory and Holy Jihad” battle to 5 drones.
The Houthi military spokesperson emphasized “continuing to develop our defensive capabilities to confront the American-British aggression and to support the oppressed Palestinian people.”
It is worth noting that the Houthis in Yemen have been carrying out attacks in the Red Sea since last November on Israeli ships or those heading to Israel, “in support and solidarity with the Palestinian people and Gaza.”
Initially, the Houthis announced the targeting of ships linked to Israel, but they expanded their targets to include ships linked to the United States and Britain, after strikes carried out by both countries against their sites in Yemen.
They also announced earlier the start of implementing the fourth stage of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean Sea” to support Palestinians in Gaza.
