Hezbollah announced early Sunday that it launched “dozens of Katyusha rockets” into northern Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes that hit civilians in southern Lebanon, heightening fears of a potential war between Hezbollah and Israel amid regional tensions.
In a statement, Hezbollah stated that the rocket attack targeted the “Beit Hillel” area in northern Israel as a retaliation for the Israeli military’s assaults on southern villages, specifically mentioning the attacks on the villages of Kafr Kila and Deir Sirian, which resulted in civilian casualties.
According to reports from Al Arabiya/Al Hadath, approximately 50 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards northern Israel.
The sound of warning sirens was reported in the settlements of Kiryat Shmona and Tel Hai in the Upper Galilee region.
In response, the Israeli military claimed to have intercepted most of the rockets fired from Lebanon, as reported by Yedioth Ahronoth.
Earlier on Saturday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that six civilians were injured due to Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon.
In a related development, the Israeli military announced the assassination of a Hezbollah member on the Bazourieh road.
Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on his X platform account that the Israeli Air Force eliminated Ali Nazih Abd Ali on Saturday morning in the Bazourieh area of southern Lebanon.
Adraee described Abd Ali as a central terrorist figure in Hezbollah’s southern front, involved in planning and executing various terrorist activities.
Since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas on October 7 in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah and Israel have almost daily exchanged fire along the Lebanese-Israeli border, increasing concerns about the possibility of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
