Hezbollah announced on Saturday that it fired rockets at the northern Israeli town of Safed, following an earlier Israeli army report of 115 projectiles launched from Lebanon into Israel.
The rocket barrage targeting Safed came shortly after Hezbollah also claimed responsibility for attacks on Haifa, another city in northern Israel.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated significantly, with both sides exchanging frequent cross-border attacks.
The hostilities have intensified following the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which prompted Israel’s large-scale military response in Gaza.
Hezbollah, a militant group based in Lebanon and backed by Iran, has increasingly joined the conflict by launching attacks on Israeli targets in northern Israel.
Israel has responded to these attacks with airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, heightening fears of a broader regional war.
The situation has strained Lebanon’s already fragile stability, displacing thousands of people and exacerbating existing humanitarian challenges.
The conflict has also drawn international concern, with calls for de-escalation and fears of a wider Middle East conflict involving other regional powers such as Iran.
