Hamas Movement stated that the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, arrived in Tehran on Tuesday leading a high-level delegation from the movement’s leadership.
The movement added in a statement that Haniyeh and his delegation are expected to hold a series of meetings and discussions with Iranian leadership regarding the political and field developments related to the war on Gaza and the overall changes related to the Palestinian cause.
This comes a day after the United Nations Security Council voted on a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Earlier, Iranian media reported that the head of Hamas’ political bureau was heading to the Iranian capital Tehran to meet with Iranian officials.
Iran’s English-language Press TV channel reported, “Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau, will head to Tehran on Tuesday to meet with Iranian officials.”
This visit comes a day after the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian group.
The United Nations Security Council adopted its first resolution yesterday, Monday, demanding an “immediate cessation of hostilities” in Gaza, with the United States abstaining from voting, after previous attempts to issue a resolution were thwarted by resorting to the right of veto (veto).
It is worth mentioning that Iran supports Hamas in the ongoing war, which has lasted for about six months in Gaza and has resulted in the deaths of more than 32,000 Palestinians.
