United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his shock over the mass shooting incident at a university in the Czech capital, Prague, as reported by his spokesperson on Thursday.
In a statement by Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres’ spokesperson, the Secretary-General conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy and full recovery for the injured.
Dujarric continued, stating that the UN Secretary-General also reaffirmed his full solidarity with the people and government of the Czech Republic.
The tragic event, which is the worst mass shooting incident in the country, occurred at Charles University in Prague on Thursday. At least 14 people were killed, and 25 others were injured when a suspect opened fire.
The Czech government has declared a national day of mourning for the victims of the shooting to be observed on Saturday.
The shooter, believed to be a student at the university who had recently killed his father and was wanted by the police, took his own life. His identity has not yet been officially confirmed.
