The German Ministry of Defense (Bundeswehr) announced that the Malian government supports the decision to withdraw German military forces from the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali back to their home country.

In a statement released on Thursday, the German Defense Ministry clarified that Malian Defense Minister Sadio Camara confirmed his support for the Bundeswehr’s decision during a phone call with his German counterpart, Defense Minister Annalena Baerbock.

Baerbock expressed that the conversation was goal-oriented and timely. “We will continue to discuss a smooth withdrawal of the Bundeswehr from Mali,” she added.

The Bundeswehr’s troops are set to conclude their mission as part of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) by the end of the year.
