The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine, which passed with a majority of 124 votes.

Jasim Mohammed Al-Badiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, stated in a press release the necessity of ending the unlawful Israeli occupation in Palestinian territories and affirmed the Palestinian people’s right to reclaim their lands. Al-Badiwi emphasized that the expansionist and geographical altering actions taken by Israeli forces are illegitimate, illegal, and lack recognition at both regional and international levels.

He stressed the need for the international community to uphold its responsibilities in implementing this resolution, declaring that the occupied Palestinian territories will remain an integral part of the Palestinian people’s inherent rights.

Al-Badiwi reiterated the steadfast positions of the GCC states towards the Palestinian issue, their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and their backing of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their own state.

The UN General Assembly approved this resolution by a majority of 124 votes against 14. The resolution, which was the first presented by Palestine, calls for Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories within 12 months. Over 40 countries co-sponsored the resolution, which was voted on during a special emergency session titled “Illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.”
