The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has affirmed its willingness to engage in substantial conversations with Iran, in accordance with international conventions. The statement, delivered by Jasim Al-Badiwi, the Secretary-General of the GCC, during an interview with Al Jazeera, emphasizes the region’s diplomatic objectives.
According to Al-Badiwi, all Gulf countries have welcomed the normalization process between Saudi Arabia and Iran. “Normalizing these relations contributes to the stability of the region,” he asserted.
This sentiment echoes recent statements by Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian. In a recent Twitter post, Abdollahian stated, “Establishing a mechanism for dialogue and cooperation involving all Gulf region countries is more necessary and fruitful than ever.”
Abdollahian extended Iran’s approval of the UN Secretary-General’s initiative to hold a meeting for regional foreign ministers in New York. He also proposed the idea of establishing a forum for dialogue and cooperation involving all countries located on the northern and southern shores of the Gulf.
Furthermore, the Iranian foreign minister emphasized that a safer and more prosperous future is a shared right of all regional peoples. Abdollahian assured that Iran is determined to redouble its efforts toward achieving this objective.
“We cannot achieve development, progress in the region, and a bright future for our next generations without brotherhood, friendship, and cooperation,” he concluded.
This declaration comes after Abdollahian recently hosted his Saudi counterpart for productive talks in Tehran, followed by his visits to Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and the UAE. According to the Iranian foreign minister, the discussions with senior officials and his counterparts in these countries were extremely positive and constructive, giving hope to all and promising a safer and more prosperous future for their peoples.
