The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza has risen to 37,084, with 84,494 people injured since October 7.
The latest figures highlight the devastating impact of the conflict on the civilian population in Gaza.
In the past 24 hours alone, the Israeli military has reportedly committed eight massacres against families in Gaza, resulting in 283 deaths and 814 injuries, according to the Ministry’s statement.
Among the most affected areas is the Nuseirat refugee camp, where the death toll from recent attacks has reached 274, with 698 people injured, including those in critical condition.
Rescue teams are still unable to reach many victims trapped under the rubble and in the streets.
The Israeli military has continued its bombardment of Gaza for the 247th consecutive day, employing airstrikes and artillery shelling that have led to widespread destruction and civilian casualties. The Ministry described these actions as genocide against the people of Gaza.
The Gaza Strip, a small territory along the Mediterranean Sea, has been a focal point of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for decades.
Governed by Hamas since 2007, Gaza has faced numerous military operations from Israel, often in response to rocket fire and other attacks.
The territory is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with around 2 million residents living under severe restrictions due to an ongoing blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt.
The current escalation, which began on October 7, has seen unprecedented levels of violence. Israel’s military operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas’ infrastructure and stopping rocket attacks on Israeli territory.
However, the high civilian casualty rate has drawn widespread international condemnation and calls for a ceasefire. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza have deteriorated sharply, with significant damage to infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and residential buildings.
Efforts by international organizations to deliver aid and mediate a ceasefire have been ongoing, but a resolution remains elusive.
The conflict continues to cause immense suffering for civilians on both sides, with the international community urging for immediate de-escalation and a return to negotiations for a lasting peace solution.
