The French Foreign Ministry announced the death of a second French citizen in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, stating, “We confirm the death of a second French national and will provide more details later.”
This marks the second French casualty in Lebanon due to Israeli strikes, following last Thursday’s announcement of an 87-year-old French woman’s death after a “powerful explosion” in a southern Lebanese village.
The French Embassy in Lebanon expressed its regret in a statement regarding the death of one of its nationals in a village near the city of Tyre, caused by the collapse of a building during an Israeli raid.
“We express our sorrow over the death of an 87-year-old citizen last Monday in a village close to the city of Tyre. The building she was residing in collapsed following a powerful nearby explosion,” the statement read.
This incident coincides with the arrival of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Lebanon this Sunday evening.
Minister Barrot is scheduled to conduct a series of meetings with Lebanese and international officials on Monday to discuss French support, particularly humanitarian assistance.
Speaking at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Prince Faisal highlighted that the lack of accountability for Israel’s violations of international and humanitarian law is encouraging further escalation. He warned that this path will not lead to security or stability but will instead fuel violence and threaten regional peace.
