Former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has joined Brazilian champions-elect Botafogo on a four-month deal, until the end of the country’s league season.
.
“I’m very happy to have been chosen to be part of the family. Thanks and I see you soon,” Costa said in a social media post.
The 34-year-old left Wolves in June and was a free agent. He reunites with former Wolves boss Bruno Lage with Botafogo 16 points ahead of nearest chasers Flamengo mid-way through the Brazilian season
His arrival comes at a critical time with the league’s top goalscorer, Tiquinho Soares, out with a knee ligament injury.
Costa won two league titles and scored 59 goals with Chelsea and also lifted two Spanish La Liga trophies and the Europa League during two spells with Atletico Madrid.
A club statement read: “Botafogo continues to build a quality squad and will count on the experience of Diego Costa, a 34-year-old striker, on a contract signed until the end of 2023.”
