At least 12 individuals lost their lives, while another 65 were injured in a massive explosion in the Dominican Republic, as reported by CNN, citing the Dominican Red Cross.

The incident occurred on Monday in the Villa Valdez area of San Cristobal province, west of the capital city, Santo Domingo. The Red Cross stated on Tuesday that the explosion led to 55 people missing. The aftermath of the explosion resulted in the complete collapse of three buildings near a shopping center.

Expressing his concern about the situation, the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, said he is closely monitoring the events, as reported by the Central 4 Noticias, affiliated with the government’s RTVD radio station on Monday.

Emergency services mentioned that Abinader has mobilized resources, including 20 ambulances and 14 fire trucks, to respond to the incident.
