Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced on Wednesday that the European Union faces various threats to its security, prosperity, and way of life.

In response to these challenges, she stated that the EU plans to double its ammunition production to over 2 million shells annually by the end of 2025.

Von der Leyen emphasized the necessity for the EU to be prepared for the risks of war, indicating a significant focus on enhancing the bloc’s military capabilities.

She pointed out that EU member states need to immediately start rebuilding, renewing, and modernizing their armed forces to address current and future security challenges.

According to the commission president, while the threat of war may not be imminent, it cannot be ruled out as a possibility.

This move to increase ammunition production marks a significant step in the EU’s efforts to bolster its defense posture amidst growing global uncertainties.
