Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and his accompanying delegation today. The meeting focused on the strong and growing relations between Egypt and the EU, with both sides praising the momentum of bilateral cooperation, recently solidified by the announcement of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

During the talks, both parties affirmed their commitment to exploring new areas of collaboration within the framework of their strategic partnership.

A major part of the discussions centered on the situation in Gaza and the broader Middle East region. The meeting reviewed the extensive efforts made by Egypt and international partners to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees.

President Sisi emphasized the serious risks of continued escalation, which could lead to further conflict expansion. He also stressed the critical responsibility of the international community, particularly the EU, to exert pressure for a peaceful resolution and an end to the ongoing war.

Borrell expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role as a cornerstone of regional stability. He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to continuous consultation with Egypt and support for its ongoing efforts to maintain regional peace during this critical period.

President Sisi, in turn, praised Josep Borrell for his fair and objective positions throughout recent developments.
