The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, accused Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir of inciting war crimes in a tweet on the platform X, calling for sanctions against them due to Ben-Gvir’s call to cut off fuel and aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Borrell stated on his X account, “While the world pushes for a ceasefire in Gaza, Minister Ben-Gvir calls for cutting off fuel and aid to civilians.”

He added, “Like Minister Smotrich’s malicious statements, this constitutes incitement to commit war crimes. Sanctions should be on the EU’s agenda.”

In a subsequent tweet, he urged the Israeli government “to unequivocally distance itself from this incitement to war crimes, and I call on it to engage in good faith in the negotiations facilitated by the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt for an immediate ceasefire.”

Two days earlier, Borrell had described the Israeli attack on a school sheltering displaced people in Gaza as “horrific,” saying he was “horrified” by the images of the strike.

He further remarked, “At least 10 schools have been targeted in the past weeks. There is no justification for these massacres.”
