Egypt has warned of the dangers of opening a new war front in Lebanon following recent events in the village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, which could lead the region into a comprehensive regional war. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of supporting Lebanon, its people, and institutions to spare them the horrors of war.
The ministry also called on influential forces in the international community to intervene immediately to prevent the region’s people from facing catastrophic consequences of an expanded conflict, which could threaten international peace and security.
Egypt reiterated its warning about the risks of Israel continuing its war against the Gaza Strip, urging for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire to end the humanitarian suffering in Gaza as quickly as possible. This would enable the international community to contain the negative repercussions of the crisis on the Palestinian people and the region’s security and stability.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib cautioned that any major Israeli attack would lead to a regional war. This came after 12 people were killed by a rocket that fell in Majdal Shams, which Israel accused Hezbollah of launching. Bou Habib told Reuters that Lebanon had requested the United States to urge Israel to exercise restraint amid recent tensions, while the US asked the Lebanese government to curb Hezbollah’s actions.
Israel accused Hezbollah of being responsible for the incident and vowed to retaliate. However, Hezbollah denied any involvement in the attack on Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, stating that it had no connection to the event.
Tensions have been escalating between Israel and Hezbollah, with recent skirmishes and exchanges of fire across the Israel-Lebanon border. This situation has been further aggravated by the ongoing conflict in Gaza, leading to increased regional instability. Israel has warned Hezbollah against escalating the situation, with the potential for a broader conflict if hostilities continue. Diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate the situation and prevent further violence
