Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called on Sunday for a resolution to the Syrian crisis in all its dimensions, emphasizing the importance of preserving Syria’s unity and stability.
During a phone call with Geir Pedersen, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Shoukry discussed the outcomes of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group on Syria meeting, held in Cairo on August 15. He affirmed the committee’s commitment to completing its entrusted mission of reaching a resolution for the Syrian conflict, safeguarding the unity and stability of Syria.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, in a press statement, said that Minister Shoukry exchanged views with the UN Envoy on the latest developments in Syria across various fronts. They deliberated on the efforts being made regarding all aspects of the Syrian crisis. Furthermore, they agreed to arrange a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly meetings in September.
The spokesperson noted that Pedersen expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in seeking a resolution for the Syrian crisis. He lauded the outcomes of the Arab Contact Committee’s meeting and affirmed his intent to coordinate with all relevant parties to build upon the conclusions reached in the recent committee session.
