Egypt has issued a stern warning about the “consequences of inaction” by the international community, urging immediate intervention to halt Israeli aggression.
The warning follows a recent bombing in the residential area of Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Palestinian civilians.
The Egyptian government condemned Israel’s continued targeting of unarmed civilians in Gaza, accusing it of committing massacres against them and striking civilian infrastructure, including residential areas, hospitals, and schools.
In a statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry emphasized that there is no moral or military justification for the immense toll on civilians, including women and children.
Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, also condemned the ongoing attacks on civilians.
He highlighted the deadly impact of Israeli airstrikes on Beit Lahia, which claimed numerous lives on Sunday.
The ministry reiterated the need for activating international accountability mechanisms, ending the suffering of civilians in Gaza, and demanded an immediate cessation of Israeli actions targeting and terrorizing civilians, which violate the most basic principles of international and humanitarian law.
Furthermore, Egypt has renewed its call for the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, warning of the consequences if the international community fails to act promptly to stop Israeli aggression.
Joyce Msuya, the Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, stated that Palestinians, particularly in northern Gaza, are enduring indescribable suffering under the siege imposed by Israeli forces.
In her statement, Msuya emphasized the importance of protecting civilians, the wounded, healthcare workers, and medical facilities under international humanitarian law.
She noted that many people are trapped under rubble, with first responders blocked from reaching them, while tens of thousands of Palestinians are being forcibly displaced.
