Today, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, in a meeting attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and General Abbas Kamel, the head of the General Intelligence Service. Spokesman for the Presidency Counselor Ahmed Fahmi stated that the meeting discussed the overall developments of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
There was expression of appreciation for the positive developments witnessed in Egyptian-Turkish relations, happening within a framework of mutual respect and common interest. Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing efforts to push the path of relations between the two countries forward and move to a new stage in the coming period.
Views were exchanged regarding the accelerated military escalation in the Gaza Strip. Agreement was reached on the grave danger of the current situation and its threat to the stability and security of the region. This requires intensifying international efforts to immediately cease violence, restore calm, and take immediate, effective measures to protect civilians.
Both sides expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip. They confirmed the necessity of providing safe and urgent access for humanitarian aid to the residents of the strip and not exposing them to collective punishment policies of siege, starvation, or displacement.
In this context, the Turkish Foreign Minister appreciated Egypt’s role in coordinating and facilitating the arrival of humanitarian and relief aid from all concerned countries and international organizations to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, President Al-Sisi emphasized the utmost importance of coordinated international efforts to end the escalating humanitarian suffering experienced by the Palestinian people in Gaza.
