The Finance Ministry and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have started preparations for the 8th annual meeting of the bank, set to be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh in September.

A number of activities will be proposed during the meeting with the aim to deepen contribution by the private sector to sustainable infrastructure projects in Africa, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance and Governor of Egypt at the AIIB, said the meeting is considered an important platform to enhance development partnership among African and Asian countries.

Egypt is the first African contributor to the AIIB and the first to hold a permanent membership in the continent, Maait added.

“We are looking forward to making available more promising opportunities to finance infrastructure projects in African countries in a way that would contribute to achieving comprehensive development,” the minister said.
