Wintershall Dea, a German company, announced on Sunday its successful commencement of natural gas production at a rate of 10 million standard cubic feet per day from the ED-2X onshore well in the Nile Delta region of Egypt.
The operating company, in collaboration with its partners, has succeeded in producing gas from the exploratory well located in the Damanhour region of the Nile Delta, an area where gas was discovered last January.
Wintershall and its partner, DEA, each hold a 40% stake in the well’s concession, while INA holds the remaining interest.
Don Summers, the Executive Director of Operations at Wintershall Dea, responsible for the Middle East and North Africa region, remarked that the safe and efficient production startup of this well enables the provision of additional energy supplies desperately needed in Egypt.
The well is located approximately three kilometers from the Desouq field, where Wintershall Dea and the Egyptian company EGAS are already producing natural gas through their joint venture, Disouq.
