The Egyptian Foreign Ministry welcomed today, Wednesday, the announcement by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, of Canberra’s intention to reinstate the term “occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.”

The official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, said through his account on the microblogging site, formerly known as “Ex-Twitter”, “We welcome the announcement by the Australian Foreign Minister of the Australian government’s intention to reuse the term (occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem), and consider the Israeli settlements illegal.”

The spokesperson described the Australian Foreign Minister’s announcement as a “positive and significant step in reinforcing international legitimacy and protecting Palestinian rights.”
