The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that its Minister, Sameh Shoukry, participated in a trilateral meeting with his Jordanian and Iraqi counterparts at the ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday.

In related events, the Foreign Minister received Syria’s Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, on Tuesday for a bilateral discussion at the Ministry’s Maspero location. This was followed by Mekdad’s participation in a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group focused on Syria.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shoukry is set to make media statements from the Ministry’s headquarters along the Nile Corniche in Tahrir.

It’s worth noting that Mekdad visited Cairo last April, marking his first visit in over a decade. The visit witnessed a private bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the two nations, followed by an extended conversation that included both the Egyptian and Syrian delegations. Their discussions covered various aspects of bilateral relations and means to enhance them to benefit both nations. Additionally, they discussed several regional and international files of mutual interest.

The talks at the time also addressed ways to assist the Syrian people in regaining their unity, sovereignty over their territories, and confronting increasing challenges. This includes efforts to recover from the devastating February 6th earthquake’s impacts and efforts to achieve a comprehensive political resolution to the Syrian crisis.

During his reception of his Syrian counterpart, Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis as soon as possible. This is in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 and under the auspices of the United Nations. He emphasized Egypt’s support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Syria and stressed the importance of completing the procedures related to achieving national consensus among the Syrian brethren, building trust, and continuing the meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
