The Egyptian naval supply ship “Abu Simbel – 2” arrived at Port Sudan carrying over 200 tons of relief aid. According to a statement from the Egyptian Armed Forces, the ship carried food items, basic provisions, medical supplies, and medications provided by the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Egyptian Red Crescent. The aid aims to support the most needy areas in Sudan, particularly the Northern State which has suffered from flood damage.
The Egyptian statement highlighted that the aid delivery stems from Egypt’s active role in supporting its brothers and showing solidarity in various crises, following directives from President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who emphasized providing all possible support to “our Sudanese brothers.”
Sudan experienced devastating floods last month, destroying about 70 villages in the northern and eastern regions, with 12,420 homes completely collapsing. Most damages were concentrated in the Northern and Nile River states, according to a government report. Concurrent floods in the country’s eastern part led to the displacement of over 100,000 people and the collapse of the Arbaat Dam, which supplied water to Port Sudan, resulting in at least 30 deaths.
