During his ongoing visit to Washington, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty held a meeting on September 20th with US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee.

This visit is part of Egypt’s continued engagement in key international dialogues.

According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Minister Abdelaty emphasized that the Horn of Africa remains a top priority in Egypt’s foreign policy due to its direct connection to Egypt’s national security.

He highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts to restore stability, combat terrorism, and address organized crime across this critical region, which is vital for both regional and global security, as well as safeguarding international maritime traffic in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Abdelaty stressed Egypt’s dedication to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across Africa.

He noted that Egypt, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, plays a pivotal role in post-conflict reconstruction and development on the continent.

Egypt hosts the African Union Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (AUCPCRD) and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), further solidifying its leadership in fostering peace and rebuilding efforts across Africa.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Somalia’s stability, emphasizing the importance of strengthening Somalia’s central government, respecting its sovereignty, and assisting the Somali Federal Government in its efforts to combat terrorism and enforce state control over its territory. Abdelaty stated that Egypt views this support as part of its broader responsibility to contribute to regional and international peace and security, in alignment with the principles of the United Nations Charter, the African Union’s foundational documents, and the Arab League.

Egypt has been actively providing support to Somalia in security and military capacity building, drawing on its extensive experience in counterterrorism and law enforcement. Abdelaty further stressed Egypt’s role in assisting Somalia in its efforts to fight terrorism and strengthen national institutions.
