Egypt has made significant strides in cybersecurity, which is known as the process of protecting systems, data, communications, and networks connected to the internet from digital attacks.
According to Egyptian media, Egypt has achieved a major milestone globally and in the Arab world, being ranked among the top countries in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) for 2023-2024, released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Egypt topped this category among the 12 nations included in the report, scoring a perfect 100 points across all ITU criteria. This evaluation was part of five categories involving 194 countries worldwide.
The ITU releases the Global Cybersecurity Index every two years, focusing on five critical areas including regulatory policies, legislation, institutional frameworks, human capacity building, technical capabilities, and international collaboration.
Significantly, Egypt’s progress in the global arena is attributed to the effective role played by the National Center for Cyber Incident Readiness (EG-CERT) of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority.
Furthermore, Egypt has launched the National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023-2027), emphasizing substantial efforts in capacity building, continuous cybersecurity monitoring, and enhancing collaboration with international organizations and countries.
The strategy also focuses on raising public awareness about the risks and threats to individuals and institutions, positioning Egypt as a leader in global cybersecurity advancements.
