The nearby Hay Adams hotel was reportedly evacuated in response to the incident, according to Fox 5 television news. Footage broadcast by WUSA television station showed a U-Haul removal company truck stationed alongside a line of steel bollards, with uniformed law enforcement officers approaching the vehicle.
Following the crash, the authorities employed a remote-controlled robot to partially open the vehicle’s door, revealing a removal dolly but no other apparent cargo, as reported by Shomari Stone of Fox 5. Witness accounts cited by WUSA indicated that the driver struck the barriers a second time after the initial collision.
The Washington Fire Department received a call at approximately 9:40 PM local time, and a suspicious package was subsequently investigated. Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo assured that all units were ready to assist law enforcement with their ongoing investigation.
