On Monday, the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) exchanged accusations over the destruction of the Halfaia Bridge, which links Khartoum Bahri in the east to Omdurman in the west.

Sudanese Army spokesperson Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah stated in a press release that the RSF destroyed the eastern part of the Halfaia Bridge on Sunday evening, causing damage to its concrete structures.

“The militia has resorted to attempts to destroy infrastructure and vital facilities to cover up its failure to achieve its malicious goals, believing that this would prevent the armed forces from performing their duty to cleanse the nation of their defilement,” he added.

On the other hand, the RSF spokesperson accused what he termed as “Al-Burhan’s militia and the Islamic Movement battalions hiding under the army’s guise” of destroying the bridge. “This is the same tactic they used before to destroy the Shambat Bridge, the Al-Jaili Oil Refinery, and their desperate attempt to destroy the Jebel Aulia Dam,” the RSF spokesperson said in a statement.

The RSF controls the Halfaia Bridge from the Khartoum Bahri side, while the army controls it from the Omdurman side. The bridge, constructed in 2010, is strategically important for both sides in the conflict as it facilitates the transport of logistical supplies and support during battles.
