Swedish prosecutors have filed charges against climate activist Greta Thunberg for disobedience to law enforcement related to a protest in Malmö last month.
According to local newspaper Sydsvenskan, Thunberg was among several activists detained after they disrupted traffic at the oil terminal of the port on 19 June.
In a brief statement, Swedish prosecutors announced on Wednesday that a “young woman” had been charged with disobedience for refusing to comply with police orders during the protest.
While the statement did not mention Thunberg by name, Swedish Prosecution Authority spokeswoman Annika Collin confirmed her involvement.
Thunberg gained international recognition for her activism, inspiring a global youth movement that calls for stronger actions against climate change.
Her weekly protests outside the Swedish Parliament, which began in 2018, have galvanized support and raised awareness on the urgency of addressing environmental issues.
Thunberg’s media team has not yet responded to requests for comment on the recent charges.
