Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov refuted on Thursday reports alleging the BRICS summit would be relocated to China from South Africa are fake, according to Interfax.

A meeting of foreign ministers from BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) will be under the presidency of South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor in Cape Town on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the gathering, as he arrived in Cape Town after his African tour having visited Kenya, Burundi, and Mozambique.

Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, highlighted that the ministers will touch upon current issues on the global agenda as well as cooperation within the leading multilateral format.

They will exchange views on the prospects for the development of strategic partnerships within BRICS. “Special attention will be focused on the upcoming summit of the five nations’ leaders on August 23-24,” she added.
