Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated on Tuesday that the Gaza Strip is undergoing complete destruction.
Speaking at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in California, Borrell mentioned his previous visits to Gaza in 2008 and 2009, noting that the region has undergone destruction several times before.
This time, however, he described the destruction as total, reducing the area to rubble.
Borrell emphasized that merely providing humanitarian aid to Gaza does not suffice in the current extreme conditions.
He explained that while the European Union continues to provide significant humanitarian support, this approach does not constitute a complete solution.
He also highlighted the risk of famine in Gaza due to the closure of crossings after military actions. Borrell advocated for the start of a political process aimed at empowering the Palestinian Authority, which he believes is essential for achieving a two-state solution and ending the ongoing tragedy.
