In today’s trading, Bitcoin witnessed a significant uptick after supportive comments from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
By 10:50 Moscow time, the cryptocurrency surged by 3.21% to $69,672.38, according to data from CoinDesk.
The boost came after Trump, the former U.S. President, recently pledged to make the United States a global hub for cryptocurrency and a “superpower of Bitcoin.”
During his speech at the “Bitcoin 2024” conference held in Nashville, Tennessee, last Saturday, Trump presented a plan aimed at accelerating the growth of the crypto sector and transforming the U.S. into a leading force in cryptocurrency mining.
Trump affirmed that if he returns to the White House, he will establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve in the U.S.
This bold and unconventional step implies that a country decides to purchase a large amount of Bitcoin and store it as part of its official reserves, similar to how gold or foreign currencies are handled. This move has significant implications for the global economy.
Trump stated, “My administration’s policy will be to retain 100% of all the Bitcoins currently held or acquired by the U.S. government in the future… as the core of our national strategic Bitcoin stockpile.”
He also emphasized that once in office, the “persecution of cryptocurrencies” will cease.
Trump was reportedly injured but is expected to survive, according to two senior law enforcement officials. The 78-year-old appeared to have sustained a bloody ear.
Gunfire erupted during Trump’s speech in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred while Trump was discussing immigration and displaying a chart of border crossing numbers.
The speech was abruptly interrupted by the sound of gunshots, prompting Trump to place his hand on his ear and sit down behind the podium. Bodyguards quickly surrounded him, and he was led off the stage with a bloodied right ear.
