The General Sports Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Ministry of Sports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement to collaborate in the sports sector.
This agreement aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in sports, promote community sports, Paralympic sports, women’s sports, and combat sports, as well as manage and organize sports events, including exhibitions, competitions, and championships. The agreement also focuses on the qualification and development of sports personnel and the preparation of long-term training programs.
The agreement was signed by the First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa emphasized that the agreement is a strategic step in strengthening sports relations between the two brotherly nations and reflects a shared desire to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in various sports fields.
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have been making significant strides in sports development, with major projects and events that underline their commitment to becoming global sports hubs.
Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup is a cornerstone of its Vision 2030, featuring plans to build 11 new stadiums and refurbish existing ones across five cities, including Riyadh and Jeddah. The country is also heavily investing in infrastructure and hotel capacity to support this bid. Additionally, Saudi Arabia will host the debut of the Olympic Esports Games in 2025, reflecting its growing emphasis on esports as part of its broader sports strategy. This move is part of a larger effort to position the Kingdom as a leader in digital sports.
Bahrain continues to maintain its presence on the global sports stage, particularly with its active participation in events like the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Kingdom is also focusing on developing its sports infrastructure and enhancing cooperation with neighboring countries like Saudi Arabia, as seen in the recent sports cooperation agreement.
