Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, strongly condemned the aggressive military operation being conducted by Israel in the West Bank, which has resulted in the death of more than eleven people and included the imposition of a comprehensive blockade on major cities and large areas of the West Bank. Jamal Rushdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated in a press release that the brutal raids, attacks, and killings carried out by Israel in the northern cities of the West Bank, along with the destruction of infrastructure and the siege of hospitals, represent a dangerous approach aimed at subjugating the Palestinian people, overturning the remnants of signed agreements, and re-annexing Palestinian territories in line with the far-right agenda. Rushdy added that this approach cannot be separated from the dangerous and wholly unacceptable statements made by extremist ministers in the Israeli government concerning Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Rushdy also quoted Aboul Gheit as saying that “Israel is waging a war of extermination against Palestinians everywhere, and the Israeli operation in the West Bank has no connection to the October 7 attacks; rather, the objective is to make Palestinian lives unbearable on their land, whether in the West Bank or the occupied Gaza Strip, and to perpetuate ongoing intimidation through the spilling of blood, as part of plans to displace and liquidate the Palestinian cause.”

Aboul Gheit stressed that the international community cannot stand idly by in the face of this escalation, which deliberately pushes the situation in the region to the brink of disaster, opens new fronts, and ignites fires that could lead to a full-scale explosion. He emphasized that the United States has failed to exert the necessary pressure on Israel, succumbing to its maneuvers and delaying tactics, with no real intention of reaching an agreement to end the aggressive war on Gaza and prevent the risk of total escalation in the region. He held Washington responsible for the continued and escalating Israeli actions in the region and called on the U.S. to take a clear stance on the latest military operation being carried out by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
