Algeria has officially joined the International Union of Architects (UIA), marking a significant step in the nation’s architectural industry. The news was announced during the 28th conference of the UIA, which concluded on Sunday in Copenhagen, Denmark, with representatives from 112 countries.
Algeria, represented by its National Council of Architectural Engineers, was announced as a new member of the UIA, alongside the United Arab Emirates, Togo, and Andorra. This key update underscores Algeria’s commitment to engaging in global architectural discussions and strengthening its professional relationships at an international and regional level.
Members of the National Council of Architectural Engineers from Algeria participated actively in the general assembly of the UIA, representing their country. Alongside the main events, the Algerian delegation also had the opportunity to engage in meetings and discussions with other participating delegations from Tunisia, Palestine, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
These interactions provided a valuable platform for exchanging views on the architectural profession, discussing ways to develop training programs, sharing experiences, and creating job opportunities. These conversations are expected to contribute to the advancement of architectural practices, not just in Algeria, but also in the broader Middle East and North Africa region.
The International Union of Architects (UIA) is a non-governmental organization headquartered in Paris, France. Established in 1948, the UIA works to unite architects and contribute to the formulation of public policies in construction and development, striving to advance architectural practices globally. With Algeria now a part of the UIA, it’s expected that the nation’s architectural industry will experience a new phase of international collaboration and recognition.
