In the wake of the tragic fire that claimed numerous lives and left many injured in the capital city of Johannesburg, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune extended his heartfelt condolences to his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, in a message sent on Thursday.

The message of condolence stated, “With deep sorrow and sadness, we received the news of the tragedy that struck the capital city of Johannesburg due to the massive fire that claimed many victims.”

President Tebboune further added, “In the face of this painful disaster that befell the friendly South African people, I, on behalf of the Algerian people and its government, and personally, extend my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Your Excellency and the families of the victims. I wish a swift recovery to the injured and once again express our sincere solidarity with you in these difficult circumstances.”

Concluding his message of condolences, the Algerian president expressed, “As I renew our sincere condolences, Your Excellency and dear brother, please accept the highest expressions of esteem and respect.”

It is worth mentioning that at least 73 individuals lost their lives in a fire that broke out in a multi-story building in Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa.

The fire reportedly erupted during the early hours of the morning, and rescue teams have recovered dozens of bodies from within the building, including that of a child.

Additionally, at least 43 people were injured in the incident.

One rescue official informed “Al Arabiya Al Jadid” that ”

the number of victims is expected to rise after examining three floors of the building.

Although firefighters have managed to largely contain the fire, smoke continues to emanate from the windows of the building, which has turned black due to the incident.
