Algeria Condemns Israeli Aggression on Yemen

Algeria has strongly condemned the recent Israeli aggression on Yemen, characterizing it as part of a systematic and deliberate escalation strategy employed by Israel to divert attention from its numerous and indescribable crimes, particularly in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.

In an official statement, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that despite increasing pressure from international judicial and criminal bodies, and the growing chorus of severe condemnations from around the globe, Israel continues to flaunt its disregard for the international community and the established principles of justice for the Palestinian people.

Algeria called on the global community to fulfill its responsibilities, ensuring that Israel does not escape accountability, punishment, and sanctions for its actions.

The condemnation from Algeria comes amid heightened tensions following a significant Israeli airstrike on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah.

The attack, which took place on a Saturday, was reportedly in response to Houthi attacks on Israeli-linked civilian vessels and missile strikes on Israel.

The airstrike resulted in at least three fatalities and around 87 injuries, according to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has also called for a halt to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, urging all sides to exercise restraint.

He expressed deep concern over the airstrikes and the potential for further escalation in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that the port of Hodeidah is being used by the Houthis to receive weapons shipments from Iran.

This accusation adds to the already complex and volatile situation, as the Houthis have been targeting Israel-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea since October and have vowed to continue their attacks as long as Israel’s military operations in Gaza persist.

The Houthis, a Shia Islamist group, control a significant portion of Yemen and have been actively involved in the ongoing civil conflict.

Their actions and the subsequent Israeli responses have raised fears of a broader escalation in the Middle East, with international efforts focused on preventing further loss of life and damage.

Algeria’s strong stance and call for international accountability reflect the broader concerns within the international community regarding the ongoing conflicts in the region and the urgent need for a resolution that addresses the root causes and ensures justice and peace for all affected populations.
