Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the African Union’s Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Bankole Adeoye, to discuss the evolving political and security situations across the African continent.
This dialogue came following Minister Attaf’s participation in the high-level segment of the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Algerian Foreign Ministry, the discussions primarily revolved around the cooperative relations between Algeria and the African Union across various sectors. Both parties also exchanged viewpoints on the political and security developments on the continent, particularly in the Sahel-Sahara region.
The African Union (AU) is a continental union consisting of 55 member states located on the continent of Africa. It was established in 2001 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and launched in Durban, South Africa. The organization’s primary aim is to promote peace, security, and stability on the continent.
Algeria, being one of the prominent North African nations, has been actively involved in numerous African Union initiatives, especially those relating to peace and security.
The Sahel-Sahara region, often mentioned in discussions, has been a hotbed of political and security challenges, necessitating such high-level dialogues and collaborative efforts to find lasting solutions.
