The Arab Parliament has called for intensified collaboration on both regional and international levels to provide comprehensive support for victims of terrorism.

The statement was issued on Monday by Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoomi, the President of the Arab Parliament, on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Terrorism, observed on August 21st.

Al-Asoomi emphasized the urgent need for legislative measures at both Arab and international levels to ensure the care and support of victims of terrorist activities.

This includes the development of relevant legislation aimed at assisting and supporting these victims across legal, economic, social, financial, and healthcare dimensions.

The President also stressed the importance of rehabilitating terrorism victims and integrating them back into their communities.

This aligns with the Arab strategy to combat terrorism, which not only focuses on counter-terrorism efforts but also underscores the significance of preserving the fabric of societies.

Highlighting the Arab Parliament’s initiatives in this regard, Al-Asoomi underlined the institution’s dedication to formulating a guiding Arab law that addresses the needs of terrorism victims. The goal is to aid Arab countries in reviewing and updating their national legislation while establishing new laws that cater specifically to this issue.

Furthermore, the responsible official renewed the call for nations to uphold the rights of victims as enshrined in international human rights law, ensuring their attainment in the realms of justice and reparation.

It was emphasized that safeguarding the rights of victims stands as a fundamental strategy in preventing terrorism and putting an end to the cycles of violence.

As the Arab Parliament takes a proactive stance in advocating for the support and rights of terrorism victims, the region is moving towards a more cohesive and comprehensive approach in its fight against terrorism.
