American media outlets have suggested President Joe Biden’s intention to establish a strategic partnership agreement with Vietnam during his official visit to the Asian nation in mid-September.

According to these media reports, the agreement is poised to create fresh opportunities for a new bilateral collaboration that will bolster Vietnam’s efforts to advance its high-tech sector.

This collaboration will encompass key domains such as semiconductor production and artificial intelligence.

Biden is currently contemplating a visit to Vietnam next September. The primary objective of this visit would be to engage in discussions centered around the proposed strategic partnership agreement.

At a meeting in April, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed a desire to deepen ties as Washington seeks solidify relations with partners in Asia to counter an increasingly assertive China.

Officials have not said what the closer relationship might entail, but experts say it could include increased military cooperation and US weapon supplies.
