Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on NATO to make progress on his country’s bid to join the military alliance.

Zelenskyy increased pressure on Western governments as a debate over providing security guarantees to Kyiv intensifies.

“Ukraine is ready to be in Nato. We are ready for when Nato is ready . . . We need all the unity through the alliance and we are working on it,” the Ukrainian leader said at the European Political Community summit in Moldova on Thursday.

“In Vilnius, a clear invitation to Ukraine is needed,” he added. “Doubts must vanish. Positive decisions for Ukraine will be positive for everyone.”

“There should be no hot war or frozen conflict on our continent,” the president highlighted. “When there are no security guarantees, there are only war guarantees.”

He was speaking in Chișinău after Russia conducted its 18th air strike on Kyiv in the past 31 days, killing three people in the capital.
