The Saudi Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority at Jeddah Islamic Port succeeded in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 2,242,560 Captagon pills. This was achieved after discovering them concealed in a shipment that arrived in the kingdom through the port.

The Authority clarified that the shipment contained sweets, specifically “baklava”. Upon undergoing customs procedures and inspection using security technologies, the pills were found hidden beneath layers of the baklava.

After the seizure operation was complete, coordination took place with the General Directorate for Drug Control to ensure the arrest of the recipients of the confiscated items within the kingdom. Two individuals were subsequently apprehended.

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority emphasized its ongoing commitment to tightening customs controls on the kingdom’s imports and exports. It remains vigilant against smuggling attempts, in line with its primary strategic pillars that aim to bolster security and protect society by curbing attempts to smuggle such substances and other prohibited items.

The Authority urged everyone to contribute to combating smuggling to protect society and the national economy. The Authority reassured that through these channels, reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the unified customs regulations are received with utmost confidentiality. Informants are also granted financial rewards if their report’s information proves accurate.
