The Syrian newspaper “Al-Watan” has relayed media reports suggesting that the American forces stationed at Ain al-Assad base in Al-Anbar province, western Iraq, intend to seal off the border strip with Syria.
A security source told the Iraqi “Al-Ma’louma” agency that “leaked information from security sources inside the Ain al-Assad Air Base revealed the US forces’ intention to close the border strip with Syria in western Al-Anbar for unclear reasons, coinciding with the arrival of military reinforcements for the US forces stationed deep within Syria.”
The source added that “the security leaderships overseeing the security file don’t have enough information about this direction despite the stability of the security situation and the absence of any potential terrorist threats,” noting that “recently, the US forces have intensified aerial reconnaissance operations with military and drone aircraft towards the western regions leading to Syrian depth.”
The security source further clarified that “the American forces located inside the Al-Tanf base have received military convoys coming from the Ain al-Assad base, indicating an ambiguous plan shrouded in complete secrecy.”
“Al-Watan” pointed out that these American maneuvers come days after Syria denounced the politicization of the “chemical file” by international organizations, and the ignorance of the full cooperation that Damascus demonstrated with international investigators. Damascus has confirmed that “the American occupation forces supplied terrorists in the Al-Tanf region with chemical materials and trained them to use them, preparing for a fabricated incident of chemical weapons use to blame Syria, as part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to exploit the ‘chemical file’ to serve its agendas.”
