Lebanese Defense Minister, Maurice Slim, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Thursday while traveling by car in East Beirut.
The assassination attempt, executed with gunfire, took place in the Jisr El Basha area. A high-ranking Lebanese military source confirmed to both “Al-Arabiya” and “Al-Hadath” channels that the minister’s vehicle had been subjected to gunfire.
While the minister remained unharmed, Lebanese media outlets reported his statement, emphasizing his well-being but confirming his vehicle’s rear glass was damaged from the shooting.
Correspondents from “Al-Arabiya” and “Al-Hadath” channels reported that investigative teams have initiated their probe at the attack site targeting the Lebanese Defense Minister’s convoy.
A top security official told the “Associated Press” that two bullets hit the minister’s car in the caretaker government, adding that nobody was injured.
A senior Lebanese army official mentioned that an ongoing investigation is underway to determine whether the minister was deliberately targeted.
