The World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Egypt, Dr. Naema El Gassier, stated that Egypt will be among the first countries in the world to be declared free from the Hepatitis C virus in the coming weeks by the organization.
Dr. El Gassier, in an exclusive statement to the Middle East News Agency, added that Egypt has submitted its documents to the WHO for the declaration of its Hepatitis C-free status. They are working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health to address any remaining gaps, fulfill all requirements, and close any remaining loopholes as quickly as possible, with the aim of declaring Egypt free of the Hepatitis C virus in the nearest future.
She further explained that the Egyptian government as a whole, and the Ministry of Health in particular, have made significant and intensive efforts during the past period to make Egypt free from the Hepatitis C virus. These efforts were made through the “100 Million Health” presidential initiative, which has received global acclaim.
